Scratch Doctor

Liquid Fabric Dye

Scratch Doctor's liquid fabric dye is a non-toxic, all-purpose dye for repairing and re-colouring fabric. The dye is designed to soak into the fabric, once set it won't flake, crack or peel.

For Best Results, Use with Scratch Doctor Colour Boost (Penetrating Solution) eBay item number - 273947899913

We recommend using 50% colour boost as standard, this provides a good level of increased penetration whilst maintaining colour coverage. (For example 1 litre of dye, 500ml colour boost)

Fabric Dye must be diluted with 50% water or penetrating solution prior to application, this will help penetration into stubborn fibres. (For example 1 litre of dye, 500ml water)

If applied by Brush, Sponge or Spray then 3/4 coats required. Can also be used by fully submerging the Fabric in the Fabric Dye (in a bucket)

Step 1.

Clean the surface thoroughly using the Fabric Cleaner to ensure it is clean. For best results the fabric must be the same colour or lighter than the colour you are applying.

Shake the fabric dye thoroughly before use.

Step 2.

Thin the Fabric Dye down with 50% water, or Penetrating Solution. Fabric Dye can be applied by brush, sponge, spray or by submerging the fabric in a bucket. The longer you leave it the better, we recommend a minimum of 1-2 hours. Tougher materials that are thick fibres can take 3-4 hours. Leave the item to dry for 1 hour between each coat. Do not rinse the item after this as the dye takes 3 days to cure completely.

Step 3.

The fabric can now be dried with a hairdryer or it can be left to dry naturally. It will take several hours to dry and be useable. However, the product will continue to cure over the following 72 hours, so if possible, its best to leave it this long.

When stencilling, use fabric dye neat to get a sharp edge.

Fabric Dye can be applied by brush, spray or by fully submerging the fabric completely.

Our Fabric Dye is "Micro-Fibre Reactive", meaning it works by curing into the fibres of the material. As a result, our Fabric Dye is most suitable when working with natural fabrics (e.g cotton or wool). This means that the dye may not be suitable for any synthetics or hybird items (e.g nylon or polyester)

When Re-Colouring Fabric, we advise to go darker than the original shade.

*Results may Vary. Please always patch test on an inconspicuous area first*

*Not advised for patterned Fabrics*

For convertible roofs and canvas application, Fabric Dye MUST be mixed with Colour Boost (penetration solution).
